Basic Clay - Wheel

Number of sessions:  Four 3-hour sessions

Description:
 

 

This class will teach the fundamental elements of clay.  Students will learn the basic processes of working with clay, become familiar with using the wedging table, slab roller and other available equipment. Students will learn to safely operate the wheel, center, open, pull clay into a cylinder and throw simple forms. 


 

Materials:
 

 

All necessary tools should be available from the Grand Clay Arts supply room.  Please purchase prior to the class:

 

  • 25# of clay (Speckled Buff is suggested)

  • Beginner Wheel Tools

    • Small round sponge

    • Metal pin tool

    • Wire clay cutter

    • Large wooden rib

    • Trimming tools (suggest triangle and pear shaped trim tools)


Additional supplies you may want to bring:

  • Water container (bucket or bowl with minimum 1/2 gallon capacity)

  • Small tool box or tote box or plastic container

  • Apron

  • Clay knife

  • Wax resist

  • Rubber rib(s)

  • Notebook or small binder

  • Permanent marker (i.e. Sharpie)

Mark all tools and clay with your last name using a permanent marker.
